Study Strategies

Do you forget to do your homework?

  • Keep a homework log or calendar.
  • Write your assignments in the same place each day.
  • Write it on a Post It and stick it in your locker.
  • Check the website.

Is your participation grade low?

  • Familiarize yourself with the Participation Grading Rubric.
  • Stay on track during in-class assignments.
  • Make sure you turn in your class work with your name on it.
  • Raise your hand to answer questions, even if you aren't certain of the answer.
  • Make a good attempt to answer questions if I call on you.
  • Ask intelligent questions.

Are vocabulary words tough for you?

  • Don't just "look it over". You can look words over for hours and not learn even one.
  • Minimize distractions. Turn off the T.V. Hang up the phone. Post an away message.
  • Use FLASHCARDS!!! They make it easy for you to isolate one word at a time. Also, the answer isn't visible, so you can't fool yourself into thinking that you know something that needs more of your attention.
  • Write them 5 times each. Make sure you spell them correctly.

Do you just feel lost?

  • Don't wait! Stay after school for After School Help (ASH).
  • Ask me about a Peer Tutor. (These are hard to get sometimes, but I'll try.
