How Are You?

To Ask How Are You?:

  • ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?): used for friends, family, people you know well
  • ¿Qué tal? (How are you?): this is another way to say ¿Cómo estás?

To Answer:

Estoy... (I am...)

  • Estoy bien. (I'm fine.)
  • Estoy mal. (I'm not fine.)
  • Estoy así, así. (I'm so-so.)
  • Estoy regular. (I'm so-so.)

You can also leave off the estoy, and say:

  • Bien, gracias. (Fine, thanks.)
  • Mal, muy mal. (Badly, very badly.)
  • muy (very)
  • ¿Y tú? (And you?)

Para Ti

  • Estoy cansado. (I'm tired. a boy would say this)
  • Estoy cansada. (I'm tired. a girl would say this)

  • Tengo catarro. (I have a cold. Doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl. It doesn't change.)
  • Me duele la cabeza. (My head hurts. Doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl. It doesn't change.)
  • Me duele el estómago. (My stomach hurts. Doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl. It doesn't change.)
