"Faire" expressions:

The verb faire usually means to do or to make.

  • Je fais les devoirs. (I am doing homework.)
  • Elle fait une salade. (She is making a salad.)

We also use the verb faire in expressions that do not have do or make in them:

  • faire une promenade (to go for a walk)
  • Tu fais une promenade maintenant. (You are going for a walk now.)
  • faire un voyage (to take a trip)
  • Vous faites un voyage en France. (You are taking a trip in France.)
  • faire un match (to play a game)
  • Les filles font un match de foot. (The girls are playing a soccer game.)
  • faire attention (to pay attention)
  • La classe de Mme Koss fait toujours attention. (Mrs. Koss's students always pay attention.)
