Review Test Format with Examples

1. Verb Conjugation

I give you the subject and the verb, you give me the conjugation.

  • (elle) regarder: regarde
  • (nous) habiter: habitons
  • (je) faire: fais

2. Verb Translation

I give you a sentence in English to translate. You translate the subject and verb to French. (I translate the rest of the sentence to French for you.)

  • They travel in France. Ils voyagent en France.
  • I like to speak French. J'aime parler français.

Important "Little" Words

Match the French word to the English word.

4. Numbers 0-100

1st half is French to English.

  • soixante-douze: 72
  • vingt-trois: 23

2nd half is English to French.

  • 59: cinquante-neuf
  • 95: quatre-vingt-quinze

5. Writing Questions

Read the answer, then write the question that must have been asked to get that answer.

  • answer: Elles font une pizza. question: Qu'est-ce qu'elles font?
  • answer: Tu nages en juillet. question: Quand est-ce que tu nages?

6. Answering Questions

There will be 12 all together. Some will be personal questions, like "what's your name?", others will be about other people, using a variety of nouns, verbs and adjectives.

  • Comment t'appelles-tu? answer: Je m'appelle Suzanne.
  • Comment est la prof? answer: Elle est belle et geniale!
  • Qui regarde "Survivor"? answer: Mme Koss regarde Survivor.

7. Nationalities

This is just like one of the activities you did on Monday. I give you the city, you fill in the nationality of the person given. Make sure you make them masculine/femimine/singular/plural as necessary.

  • (Ludlow, Massachusetts) Mme Koss est américaine.
  • (Madrid) Carlos et Lucia sont espagnoles.

8. Essay

You will write a letter to a pen pal. Since this is the first time you are writing, you will include:

  • your name
  • your nationality
  • your age
  • are you short or tall
  • what color is your hair
  • give 2 personality traits
  • sign your letter
