Hearty Meat Sauce

• 1 lb ground beef
• ½ cup chopped onion
• 1 garlic clove, minced
• 1 28 oz. can tomatoes
• 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
• 1 tsp sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp dried oregano leaves
• ½ tsp cracked red pepper
• ½ tsp ground black pepper
• 1 bay leaf

In 4-quart saucepan over med-high heat, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic, stirring often, until all pan juices evaporate and meat Is browned, about 10 minutes. Puree tomatoes until barely lumpy and add to meat along with remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
