From Scratch White Cake

In a bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk, butter and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl constantly. Beat on high speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally. Add egg whites and beat for 2 more minutes, scraping constantly.

Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake in 350 ° oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on wire racks for 10 minutes. Loosen sides. Remove from pans. Cool thoroughly on wire racks.
