Frosting:
Sift dry ingredients together into mixing bowl. Add shortening, butter, or margarine and 2/3 c. buttermilk. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Add rest of buttermilk and eggs. Beat 2 more minutes.
Pour into greased wax paper-lined 8 inch cake pans, and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
For Frosting:
Combine sour cream, cocoa, vanilla, and salt, and mix until well blended. Gradually add confectioner's sugar, and mix until smooth.
Frost and put layers together.
